History

Deestone was born in Thailand in the mid-1970s. The company started out as a tire sales operation around 1975, then the industrialist Suvit Vongsariyavanich established its first manufacturing plant in 1977, at a time when Thailand was working to develop its domestic production. The first two plants focused on bias-ply tires for trucks, industrial applications, and motorcycles—rugged segments suited to the needs of both the local market and the export market. During the 1980s, the lineup expanded toward motorcycle tires and small industrial tires. In 1994, the opening of a third plant, operated under Deestone International Co., Ltd., marked a diversification into bicycle and scooter tires, certain specialty industrial tires, as well as inner tubes destined for export. Over the decades, Deestone became the country's largest Thai-owned tire producer, remaining a privately held, locally controlled company, without being absorbed into a large foreign multinational group. Today the group operates several plants, with facilities spread across the Samut Sakhon and Nakhon Pathom provinces, and employs more than 10,000 people. In 2015, a major investment (on the order of 10 billion baht) supported the ramp-up toward a capacity exceeding 10 million tires per year. Deestone relies on a broad network of hundreds of dealers in Thailand and exports to more than 120 countries, including North America. There, the brand is marketed notably through an importer-distributor, Deestone Tire USA, which serves the specialty tire market (agricultural, industrial, OTR, ATV, trailer, lawn and garden). In Canada and Quebec, Deestone's presence comes through this distribution network and through specialty retailers, rather than through local factories. The Thunderer brand is also part of the company's portfolio.

Technologies

Deestone builds a significant portion of its lineup using bias-ply technology, recognized for its ruggedness, cut resistance, and controlled cost in demanding applications: agriculture, material handling, off-road, and industry. The material-handling and industrial tires use reinforced multi-ply nylon casings and deep lugs that extend service life and limit downtime. In agriculture, the multi-angle lug patterns (R-1 type) promote traction and self-cleaning in loose, muddy, or paddy-field soils. For light truck, SUV, and ATV, Deestone also offers radial tires: heat-resistant compounds, directional or all-terrain treads designed to channel away water and mud. Overall, the brand bets on proven, economical solutions rather than on breakthrough innovations.

Innovations

Deestone positions itself more as a volume manufacturer offering strong value for money than as a hub of technological disruption. Its advances are measured mainly by the expansion and specialization of its catalog: a gradual shift from bias to radial lines for passenger, light truck, and ATV applications; the development of all-terrain and mud treads dedicated to powersports; and the reinforcement of structures (additional plies, consolidated beads) for heavy loads in material handling and OTR. The 2015 investment and the capacity ramp-up illustrate an industrialization strategy aimed at making mass production more reliable. The brand has also gained recognition through visibility partnerships, including sports sponsorships in Thailand and promotional tie-ins with action films. On the sustainability side, the emphasis is mainly on product longevity and durability, which translate into a lower cost of use for fleets and operations.

Manufacturing

Deestone's headquarters and industrial heart are located in Om Noi, in the Samut Sakhon province of central Thailand. The company operates several plants, with facilities and subsidiaries spread between the Samut Sakhon and Nakhon Pathom provinces, employing more than 10,000 people for a capacity exceeding 10 million tires per year. It is the largest Thai-owned tire production site in the country. In North America, Deestone has no plant: the brand is imported and distributed there, notably by Deestone Tire USA for the specialty lines. In Quebec, supply comes through these distribution networks and specialty retailers.

Reputation

Deestone is seen as a value-oriented, versatile brand, valued for its price-to-quality ratio and the ruggedness of its bias-ply tires in agricultural, industrial, and off-road applications. Opinions on its on-road tires (passenger, SUV) are more mixed: an attractive price and acceptable ride for everyday use, but braking and high-speed handling performance that trail the major premium brands. In Quebec, interest in Deestone is concentrated mainly in the specialty segments (tractors, compact loaders, material handling, trailers, ATV/UTV), where durability and cost take priority. For winter on-road use, you should check on a case-by-case basis whether the targeted model carries the 3PMSF symbol, since many Deestone tires are summer or all-terrain products that are not certified.
