LADA Niva/4x4
The LADA Niva (also called the 4x4, then the Niva Legend) is a small off-road vehicle produced by AvtoVAZ since April 5, 1977. A pioneer of the compact all-wheel-drive SUV, it adopts a unibody body, high ground clearance, and a short format that makes it easier to maneuver in difficult terrain. As early as 1978, it was exported and captured a notable share of the European 4x4 market. Having stayed in production with few changes for decades, it has become an icon of ruggedness and simplicity, prized by off-road enthusiasts. For tires and wheels, the Niva, more off-road-oriented than the brand's sedans, typically uses 16-inch wheels and accepts taller tires, even all-terrain ones on the special versions. In Quebec, approved winter tires would be required during the cold season.

Technologies, engines and platforms
The Niva retains permanent all-wheel drive with a high- and low-range transfer case and a lockable center differential. It is powered by a gas engine of about 1.6 liters (recent Euro 5 updates), with coil-spring suspension at all four wheels, independent at the front.
