The historical and commercial heart of VAZ lies in its passenger cars. After the classic Zhiguli/Lada models derived from the Fiat 124, then the Samaras of the 1980s, the modern range is built around the Granta (economy subcompact launched in 2011, among the best-selling cars in Russia) and the Vesta (compact from 2015 developed with the Renault-Nissan alliance, moving upmarket). Added to these are the Largus estate and, more recently, the Iskra and the Aura. These saloons and hatchbacks target a public seeking an affordable, economical, and easy-to-maintain new vehicle, especially in the Russian and post-Soviet markets. In Quebec, these models are not distributed. They generally use a four-bolt pattern inherited from the Fiat architecture and 14- to 16-inch wheels; as everywhere in Quebec, winter tires would be mandatory in winter.
