Alcoa Wheels Dura-Flange

Dura-Flange is a proprietary Alcoa treatment applied to the wheel flange, where the tire bead and mounting handling wear down the metal over time. By hardening this area, the treatment creates a protective shield that reduces flange wear and can double the wheel's service life compared to an untreated aluminum wheel under the same conditions. It's a spec option rather than a distinct wheel model: it's added to an Alcoa forged wheel, often from the Ultra ONE line, and it combines with Dura-Bright. This treatment is aimed mainly at demanding uses where tires are remounted frequently and flange abrasion is high: heavy-truck, trailer, and high-mileage bus fleets. For a Quebec fleet managing many seasonal tire changes, it extends wheel service life and protects the higher initial investment of forged aluminum.
