Tire brand
Aeolus
Aeolus (风神, "god of the wind") is a Chinese tire manufacturer founded in 1965 and based in Jiaozuo, in Henan province.
Brand profile
Aeolus (风神, "god of the wind") is a Chinese tire manufacturer founded in 1965 and based in Jiaozuo, in Henan province. Specializing in commercial and off-road tires, it produces truck-and-bus (TBR), off-the-road (OTR), agricultural, industrial and solid tire lines. A subsidiary of China National Tire & Rubber, under the ChemChina group, Aeolus ranks among the world's largest manufacturers and is distributed in Canada.
Positioning: Heavy-duty, off-the-road, agricultural and industrial tires for demanding commercial applications.
History
Aeolus was founded in 1965 under the name Henan Tyre, a Henan state-owned plant dedicated to producing tires for commercial vehicles and earthmoving equipment. Over the decades, the company expanded its lines and adopted the Aeolus brand, named after the Greek god of the winds (风神 in Chinese). Now publicly traded, it became Aeolus Tyre Co., Ltd. and established its headquarters and main facilities in Jiaozuo, in Henan province. The company rose to rank among the twenty to twenty-three largest tire manufacturers in the world, with an annual output of about 5.5 million tires spanning six major categories: truck and bus (TBR), off-the-road (OTR), agricultural, industrial, solid tires and passenger (the Ace line). Aeolus belongs to the China National Tire & Rubber Co. (CNRC) group, itself controlled by the state-owned chemical conglomerate ChemChina. This ownership placed Aeolus at the heart of the group's international strategy: after abandoning in 2018 a plan to acquire Pirelli's former industrial tire division, Aeolus was given a majority stake in 2020 in the Italian Prometeon Tyre Group (which notably produces heavy-duty tires under Pirelli license), then directly acquired an additional share. On the commercial side, Aeolus has been present in Europe since 2002, where it is distributed in several countries by the wholesaler Heuver under the "Aeolus by Heuver" banner. The brand also has a structured North American presence: Aeolus Tire Canada, based in Oakville, Ontario, handles the Canadian distribution of its truck (TBR) and off-the-road (OTR) lines. The brand's positioning rests on disciplined engineering, controlled manufacturing and a competitive performance-to-price ratio, backed by six decades of manufacturing experience.
Technologies
Aeolus develops several technologies applied mainly to its heavy-duty and off-road tires. The SATT (Spiral Advanced Truck Technology) structure reinforces the casing to improve its durability, structural integrity and retreadability, an important asset for fleets looking to spread tire cost over several lives. The tread design relies on 3D digital simulation, which optimizes heat dissipation, mileage, rolling resistance and ride comfort on both dry and wet surfaces. The zigzag grooves incorporate stone ejectors to improve braking, water evacuation and steering precision while limiting stone retention. On the off-the-road side, Aeolus offers radial and bias-ply constructions in E3/L3 classes, designed to withstand cuts and heat on jobsites.
Innovations
Aeolus's research effort focuses on the longevity, energy efficiency and versatility of its commercial tires. The more recent Neo line illustrates this direction: models such as the Neo Fuel D3 target reduced fuel consumption over long distances, while winter products such as the Neo Icedrive incorporate a 3D sipe and groove pattern for traction on snow and ice. Some sizes in the Neo Allroads line even carry the 3PMSF (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake) certification, proof of validated winter capability for the North American market. In the off-road segment, Aeolus continues to evolve its rubber compounds and tread patterns (AL36, A2236 models) to increase resistance to wear, punctures and heat. The brand also highlights sustainable production and services for commercial fleets, such as the casing warranty, which extend tire value beyond its first life.
Manufacturing
Aeolus's headquarters and main production facilities are located in Jiaozuo, in China's Henan province, where the company manufactures most of its truck-and-bus, off-the-road, agricultural, industrial and solid tires. Annual output is around 5.5 million tires. On the distribution side, Aeolus relies on regional networks: in Europe, the wholesaler Heuver has carried the brand since 2002 across several countries. In North America, Aeolus Tire Canada, with offices in Oakville, Ontario, handles the distribution of the truck and off-road lines nationwide, including in Quebec. The brand does not own a Canadian plant; its local presence is commercial and logistical.
Reputation
Aeolus enjoys a solid reputation as a second-tier Chinese brand, valued by fleets for its value for money in the truck, bus and off-the-road segments. Industry tests and reviews praise its durability, mileage and retreadability, while placing it below the premium Japanese or European brands. In Quebec, Aeolus's relevance lies mainly in its truck tires: for heavy vehicles running in winter, models carrying the 3PMSF marking meet seasonal traction requirements. For off-road, agricultural and industrial applications, the appeal for Quebec buyers lies in the availability, through Canadian distribution, of rugged and affordable tires for jobsites, material handling and operations.
