Brand profile
Double Coin is a Chinese commercial tire brand founded in Shanghai in 1929, regarded as the oldest tire manufacturer in China. Specializing in radial truck and bus tires (TBR) and off-the-road (OTR) tires, it is part of the Double Coin Group (Shanghai Huayi). Its North American division, China Manufacturers Alliance (CMA), has distributed the brand in the United States, Canada, and Mexico since 1992.
Positioning: Positioning: Heavy-duty commercial tires (truck and bus) and industrial and construction off-the-road tires.
History
Double Coin traces its origins to the Great China Rubber Factory, founded in Shanghai in 1929, making it the oldest tire manufacturer in China. The "Double Coin" (Shuangqian) brand established itself as one of the major names in the Chinese rubber industry from that period onward, alongside its sister brand "Warrior." Over the decades, the company focused on industrial and commercial tires rather than the consumer passenger segment. In 1992, Double Coin Holdings became the first tire company in China to issue Class A and Class B shares, and that same year the brand began its commercial expansion into North America. The group is today part of Shanghai Huayi (Group) Company, a state-owned industrial conglomerate. Double Coin operates several brands (including Double Coin, Warrior, and Kunlun) and has production facilities in China, notably plants in Shanghai and a complex in Chongqing dedicated to heavy-duty tires. For North America, distribution runs through China Manufacturers Alliance, LLC (CMA), based in Monrovia, California, which has served as the brand's sales and marketing arm since 1992. CMA's warehousing network covers several centers across the United States as well as Mexico (Querétaro) and Costa Rica (San José). In Canada, the marketing and distribution of Double Coin TBR and OTR tires is handled by Huayi Tire Canada, Inc. (HTC), which operates a distribution center in Airdrie, Alberta, among others. The North American inventory is heavily weighted toward radial truck and bus tires (about 90%), with the remainder covering the off-the-road and industrial segments. Over more than three decades, the brand has thereby built a stable presence among the continent's commercial distributors, truck stops, and service dealers.
Technologies
Double Coin equips its truck tires with Optigreen technology, which aims to reduce rolling resistance to improve fleet fuel economy. Several highway models are EPA SmartWay verified, a program that recognizes tires with low rolling resistance and therefore lower fuel consumption. The TBR lineup relies on all-steel casings designed for retreading, extending the tire's useful service life. The tread patterns feature multi-rib designs with wide grooves and deep siping to channel water away and maintain traction throughout the tire's wear life. On the off-road side, the OTR tires use self-cleaning tread patterns and reinforced block designs that resist cuts and abrasion on abrasive terrain (rock, sand, mud).
Innovations
Double Coin's development efforts focus on durability, retreadability, and adaptation to demanding applications rather than motorsport competition. The brand has expanded its heavy-duty winter lineup with 3PMSF-certified traction tires (the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol), such as the RSD3 designed for the drive axle in severe snow conditions. In the off-road segment, the REM-2S, unveiled at the CONEXPO trade show, is an all-season M+S (mud and snow) radial tire with a non-directional tread pattern, designed for traction on snow and ice in loader, grader, and haul truck applications. The group has also invested in new OTR production capacity to serve the North American market directly. This R&D direction prioritizes durability, retreading, and seasonal versatility—criteria that are directly useful to commercial fleets and heavy machinery operators.
Manufacturing
Double Coin manufactures its tires in China, with historic facilities in the Shanghai region and an industrial complex in Chongqing specializing in truck and bus tires. The brand is part of the Shanghai Huayi group. In North America, Double Coin does not own a plant: distribution is handled by China Manufacturers Alliance, LLC (CMA), based in Monrovia, California, through several warehousing centers in the United States, Mexico (Querétaro), and Costa Rica (San José). In Canada, Huayi Tire Canada, Inc. distributes the brand's TBR and OTR tires and operates a distribution center in Airdrie, Alberta. In Quebec, Double Coin tires are available through this commercial distribution network and partner service dealers.
Reputation
Since 1992 in North America, Double Coin has built a reputation as a commercial brand offering strong value for the money, favored by fleets, truck stops, and service dealers. Its positioning is clearly geared toward heavy-duty and off-the-road tires rather than the consumer passenger market. The SmartWay-verified highway models and the retread-focused design are selling points appreciated by fleet managers concerned with cost per kilometer of operation. In Quebec, the brand's relevance lies mainly in commercial transport and machinery: certain 3PMSF-certified traction tires (drive axle) meet winter requirements, while the OTR tires serve construction sites, material handling, and snow removal. Availability runs through the Huayi Tire Canada distribution network and commercial dealers.
