History
Radar is the flagship brand of Omni United, a company founded in 2003 in Singapore by entrepreneur GS Sareen. Omni United positioned itself as a tire designer, manufacturer and distributor, identifying opportunities in the global supply chain very early on. As early as 2006, the company was cited by the Economic Development Board among Singapore's fastest-growing companies, and that same year it launched the Radar Tyres brand, intended to offer carefully engineered tires at affordable prices. Radar products are developed by an in-house design team in Singapore, then manufactured in partner plants located mainly in Thailand, Indonesia, China (Shandong province) and India, totaling about ten production sites. The brand produces several million tires per year and sells them in more than fifty countries. In 2011, Omni United partnered with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for the Mobilising Hope campaign, which included a limited-edition tire featuring a pink ribbon, an industry first. In 2013, Radar became, according to the company, the first carbon-neutral certified tire brand in the world, following an assessment of its greenhouse gas emissions conducted with Ernst & Young and offset through reforestation programs. Over the years, Omni United expanded its portfolio with other brands (Patriot Tires in 2016, American Tourer in 2017, Tecnica in 2019) while keeping Radar as its core product. The Radar lineup grew to cover passenger cars, SUVs, 4x4s, light trucks, vans and trailers, as well as the truck and bus segments (Radar TBR). In North America, Radar relies on a network of distributors and distribution centers covering the United States and Canada, with a regional selector and a dealer locator specific to the Canadian market. This structure makes it possible to offer Quebec an extensive lineup ranging from high-performance summer tires to dedicated winter tires.
Technologies
Radar relies on tread patterns tailored to each use. Its on-road lines use symmetrical ribbed tread designs and circumferential grooves optimized to channel away water and slush, reducing the risk of hydroplaning, along with tread block arrangements designed to lower rolling noise. Commercial models such as the Argonite feature reinforced construction and a sidewall protector that shields the casing against curb impacts. The Renegade series of all-terrain tires get reinforced-ply casings and a stone-ejection technology that limits gravel retention in the deep tread. On the winter side, the Dimax sub-line (notably the Dimax Alpine) uses compounds and fine-siped tread designs certified for severe winter use, carrying the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol.
Innovations
Radar's most notable contribution lies in sustainability. In 2013, the brand presented itself as the first to achieve carbon neutrality across its production, following an audit of its emissions carried out with Ernst & Young and offset through tree-planting programs tied to sales. This environmental approach, rare in the industry at the time, remains a distinctive positioning element. Omni United also innovated on the social front with its Mobilising Hope campaign in partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, including a pink-ribbon tire presented as an industry first. On the product side, the in-house R&D based in Singapore adapts its lines to regional needs: tires for electric vehicles (the All Season EV line), high-performance models (the RPX series), all-terrain and mud tires (Renegade), as well as an expanded winter offering for northern markets. This segment-by-segment specialization, rather than a single breakthrough innovation, characterizes the brand's technical evolution.
Manufacturing
Radar's head office and design center are located in Singapore, where Omni United directs product development. Manufacturing is entrusted to partner plants located mainly in Thailand, Indonesia, China (Shandong province) and India, for a total of about ten production sites spread across these four countries. The brand serves more than fifty countries. In North America, Radar does not own a plant; it relies on a network of distributors and distribution centers in the United States and Canada. In Quebec, Radar tires are available through Canadian dealers and distributors, with a dedicated regional locator.
Reputation
Radar positions itself as a value brand: affordably priced tires that aim to compete with significantly more expensive products. Reviews from North American consumers and dealers are generally favorable for everyday use, highlighting comfort, low noise and good value for the money, while placing it below premium brands for extreme conditions. Its status as a carbon-neutral brand gives it a distinctive image. In Quebec, its relevance depends on the model: the Dimax winter sub-line (including the Dimax Alpine) is 3PMSF certified and meets Quebec's winter-tire requirement from December 1 to March 15, whereas all-season tires such as the Rivera H/T are not designed for harsh winter conditions.
