History

RoadX is a brand wholly owned by Sailun Group Co., Ltd., a Chinese manufacturer founded in 2002 and based in Qingdao, in Shandong province. Sailun ranks among the twelve largest tire manufacturers in the world, employs more than 18,000 people and distributes its products in over 135 countries. The RoadX brand was developed as a value line, focused on reliability, comfort and durability at an affordable price rather than on premium positioning. On the commercial side, RoadX has been present in North America for more than five years as a supplier of medium- and heavy-duty truck tires, backed by the structure of Sailun Tire Americas (STA), which handles its distribution, marketing and technical service. The consumer lineup has expanded more recently with the rollout of the RXMotion, RXQuest and RXFrost series for the North American market. In terms of manufacturing, Sailun was one of the first Chinese manufacturers to operate modern, automated production centers, located notably in Qingdao, Dongying, Shenyang and Weifang in China, as well as in Vietnam and Cambodia. Consumer RoadX tires are produced at a plant in Cambodia, while commercial RoadX tires are manufactured at the STA plant in Vietnam, which helps the brand manage North American tariff challenges. RoadX maintains an active presence in Canada, with dedicated websites (Canadian versions for both the truck and consumer segments) and a network of retailers. Several of its commercial tires carry SmartWay certification and offer guaranteed retreadability, making them relevant for fleets. The brand emphasizes a value mission: to deliver satisfactory performance and reliability without the price of a high-end brand.

Technologies

RoadX tires are built on proven technologies rather than cutting-edge patents, in keeping with their value positioning. On the passenger and SUV side, the treads rely on wide circumferential grooves (often four) to channel away water and reduce the risk of hydroplaning, combined with siping that improves grip and shortens braking distances on wet or snow-covered surfaces. Variable-pitch designs reduce road noise for added comfort. The rubber compounds are formulated to balance longevity and traction, with winter compounds softened at low temperatures on the RXFrost series. On the commercial side, RoadX tires feature casings designed for retreadability, sidewall protectors, and closed or open tread patterns depending on the position (steer, drive, trailer).

Innovations

RoadX benefits above all from the research and development of its parent company Sailun, which invests in rubber compounds and tread engineering across the group. Sailun is notably known for its liquid compound technology (Liquid Phase Mixing) applied to some of its brands, the result of R&D aimed at improving fuel efficiency and wear. For RoadX, these advances translate into the arrival of winter-certified products bearing the 3PMSF pictogram (three-peak mountain and snowflake), such as certain RXQuest models and the RXFrost series, and into SmartWay-verified commercial tires that meet the environmental and fuel-consumption requirements of North American fleets. The brand also places emphasis on the operational durability of its truck tires, with casings guaranteeing a minimum of two retreads, which reduces total cost and the footprint per mile traveled. The recent expansion of the consumer lineup reflects a drive to offer more complete products better suited to North American conditions.

Manufacturing

The Sailun Group, owner of RoadX, is headquartered in Qingdao, China, and operates modern, automated plants in Qingdao, Dongying, Shenyang and Weifang, as well as in Vietnam and Cambodia. Consumer RoadX tires are manufactured at the Cambodian plant, while commercial RoadX tires come from the Sailun Tire Americas plant in Vietnam. RoadX has no plant in Quebec or Canada; the brand is present there through distribution, supported by Sailun Tire Americas, with dedicated Canadian websites and a network of retailers. The tires are therefore available in Quebec through partner dealers and regional distributors.

Reputation

RoadX is seen as a value brand: it aims for good value for the money rather than high-end performance. Reviews from retailers and consumers generally point to decent comfort, quiet ride and acceptable durability for the price, while noting that this is an economy line backed by a major manufacturer. In Quebec, the passenger and light-truck models relevant for winter carry the 3PMSF symbol (three-peak mountain and snowflake), required to meet the winter tire mandate from December 1 to March 15; the RXFrost winter series and certain RXQuest models fit this need. On the fleet side, the SmartWay-certified and retreadable commercial tires appeal to carriers focused on cost per mile.
