History

Sailun Group was established in 2002 in the Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone in China, amid the rapid growth of the Chinese tire industry. The company is organized around the manufacturing of radial tires for passenger cars (PCR), trucks and buses (TBR), as well as off-the-road tires (OTR). Within a few years, Sailun became the first privately owned Chinese tire company listed on a Class "A" stock exchange (ticker 601058 on the Shanghai Stock Exchange), which gave it the means to invest heavily in research and production capacity. The group developed its own network of modern manufacturing bases: Qingdao, Dongying and Shenyang in China, along with a major plant in Vietnam that notably serves export markets to North America. Declared annual capacities reach several tens of millions of PCR tires, several million TBR tires and tens of thousands of tons of OTR tires. On the technology front, Sailun stands out for developing, over more than a decade of in-house R&D, its liquid-phase mixing technology marketed under the name EcoPoint3, presented as a breakthrough for reconciling rolling resistance, wet grip and wear resistance. The brand also positions itself among the first Chinese brands associated with international motorsport activities under the auspices of the FIA. Internationally, Sailun has established sales networks and logistics centers, notably in Canada and Germany, to support its growth in European and North American markets. In 2025, the group ranked among the ten largest tire manufacturers in the world according to the Tire Business ranking and became the first Chinese tire manufacturer to join the WBCSD, as part of its Eco+ sustainability roadmap aimed at reducing the carbon and energy footprint per tire by 2030. In Canada, Sailun is present through its Sailun Tire Canada division and through retailer networks, with a lineup adapted to local conditions that includes certified winter tires.

Technologies

Sailun's flagship technology is EcoPoint3, a liquid-phase mixing process that blends the rubber components more uniformly than traditional dry mixing. The manufacturer presents it as a response to the tire's "magic triangle" — namely the simultaneous improvement of rolling resistance, wet grip and longevity, three properties that are normally at odds with one another. Several lineups incorporate silica-enriched compounds for grip at low temperatures and on wet surfaces, reinforced carcass structures and high-tension plies for stability at high speed. Sailun also uses variable-pitch tread architectures and noise-reduction technologies (SilentTread) for comfort, along with 3D multi-sipe grooving that promotes water evacuation and traction on cold surfaces.

Innovations

Sailun's most notable innovation remains its EcoPoint3 liquid-phase mixing technology, the result of more than ten years of in-house research and presented to the industry as a paradigm shift for compound manufacturing. The group is progressively rolling it out across its consumer and off-road lineups in order to improve energy efficiency, braking distance and wear resistance. Sailun is also investing in tires dedicated to electric vehicles, such as the ERANGE EV lineup, designed for higher loads and low noise levels. On the sustainability front, the manufacturer is pursuing its Eco+ roadmap and has joined the WBCSD, with targets to reduce the carbon and energy footprint per tire. On the competition side, Sailun ranks among the first Chinese brands associated with FIA-sanctioned motorsport activities, which feeds the development of its high-performance compounds.

Manufacturing

Sailun Group's headquarters are located in Qingdao, China. The group operates manufacturing bases in China at Qingdao, Dongying and Shenyang, as well as a large-scale plant in Vietnam that supplies export markets in particular, including North America. Sailun has no plant located in Canada or Quebec. The brand is present there through distribution: Sailun Tire Canada coordinates the importing and distribution of the products, supported by logistics centers and a retailer network across the country. The tires sold in Quebec are therefore imported from the Asian production sites and then offered by local dealers, including the winter models certified for provincial regulations.

Reputation

Sailun has built a reputation as a budget brand offering solid value for money rather than a premium brand. Tests and reviews, particularly in Canada (Car Help Canada, Today's Parent, TractionLife) for the Inspire model, highlight balanced behavior on wet and dry surfaces, good comfort and generous longevity warranties for the segment. The brand is seen as a sensible choice for budget-conscious Quebec drivers. For winter, it is the specific 3PMSF-certified lineups, such as Ice Blazer, that meet the provincial requirement from December 1 to March 15; all-season models without the mountain-snowflake symbol are not legally sufficient during this period.
