Tire brand
Titan
Titan is an American manufacturer of off-road tires and wheels specializing in the agricultural, construction, forestry and mining segments.
Brand profile
Titan is an American manufacturer of off-road tires and wheels specializing in the agricultural, construction, forestry and mining segments. A subsidiary of Titan International, whose roots trace back to the Electric Wheel Company of Quincy, Illinois, the company also produces Goodyear-branded farm tires under license. Its lineup covers tractors, combine harvesters, loaders, graders and off-highway trucks, with tires ranging from 6 to more than 72 inches in diameter.
Positioning: Off-road agricultural, construction and mining tires; wheels and wheel-and-tire assemblies.
History
Titan's heritage goes back more than 120 years, to the Electric Wheel Company founded in Quincy, Illinois, which built wagon wheels for America's early farming families. The modern Titan Tire Corporation was incorporated in 1993 and then structured as a subsidiary of Titan International in 1997. The company first grew through off-road acquisitions: in 1994 it purchased the off-road tire assets of Pirelli Armstrong Tire Corporation. The most significant milestone came on December 28, 2005, when Titan acquired Goodyear's North American farm tire assets for roughly 100 million dollars, including the Freeport, Illinois plant, and obtained a license to manufacture and sell Goodyear-branded farm tires. In 2006, Titan continued its off-road expansion by acquiring the OTR tire assets of Continental AG in Bryan, Ohio. On April 1, 2011, it acquired Goodyear's Latin American farm tire business for approximately 98.6 million dollars, including the São Paulo plant in Brazil. In 2015, a licensing agreement extended the Goodyear farm tire brand to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Russia and the CIS countries. Through these transactions, Titan became one of the largest manufacturers of off-road tires and wheels in North America, drawing more than 60% of its revenue from the agricultural market. In April 2025, the company announced the renewal of its license rights to Goodyear farm tires, confirming its long-term commitment to the agricultural sector. Titan remains a publicly traded company, with its headquarters and main plants located in the United States.
Technologies
Titan's flagship technology is LSW (Low Sidewall), a patented wheel-and-tire assembly featuring a larger rim diameter and a shorter sidewall than a conventional tire, while maintaining the same overall diameter. This concept reduces power hop, road lope and soil compaction, improving the stability and comfort of heavy and agricultural equipment. Titan also uses both radial and bias-ply carcasses depending on the application, reinforced rubber compounds, and lug geometries engineered for self-cleaning and traction. For agriculture, the R-1 and R-1W profiles target loose to muddy soils, while the OTR classifications (E, L, G) cover haul trucks, loaders, dozers and graders.
Innovations
Titan's most distinctive innovation remains LSW, deployed and then field-tested across a wide range of equipment: tractors, loaders, graders and articulated haul trucks, with the goal of reducing compaction and increasing productivity both in the field and on the job site. The AgraEDGE agricultural lineup illustrates this R&D approach: improved compounds, modern construction materials, and an optimized lug angle for self-cleaning, with raised bosses in the voids between R-1W lugs to eject mud and debris. Titan also invests in flotation sizes to reduce ground pressure. Manufacturing Goodyear farm tires under license allows the company to combine a century-old agricultural heritage with Titan's own industrial processes, supported by a network of roughly 1,200 dealers offering ongoing support service.
Manufacturing
Titan's headquarters and industrial heritage are in the United States, with origins in Quincy, Illinois. The company's North American plants are located in Illinois, Ohio and Iowa, and produce tires ranging from 6 to more than 72 inches in diameter. The Freeport, Illinois plant, inherited from the 2005 Goodyear acquisition, and the Bryan, Ohio OTR site, taken over from Continental in 2006, are among the key facilities. Titan also operates international capacity, notably in Brazil (São Paulo). In Canada and Quebec, the brand's presence comes through distribution and off-road and agricultural tire dealers rather than a local plant.
Reputation
Titan enjoys a strong reputation among North American farmers, contractors and mining operations, as an original equipment supplier for many tractors (John Deere, Case, New Holland, Kubota, Massey Ferguson) and a major off-road player. The brand is valued for the ruggedness of its tires, its LSW technology and its dual Titan/Goodyear catalog. Since these are agricultural, industrial and OTR tires rather than passenger road tires, their relevance to Quebec lies in availability through specialized distributors for farms, job sites and quarries; Quebec's 3PMSF winter requirements do not apply to these usage categories.
