ICH-X
ICH-X is a recent Italian automotive brand, created in 2024 on the initiative of entrepreneur Massimo Di Risio, president of the DR Automobiles group. The brand is a subsidiary of DR Automobiles Groupe, a company founded in 1985 by Di Risio (originally under the name Di Risio s.r.l.) and based in Macchia d'Isernia, in the Molise region of Italy. From 2006 onward, DR Automobiles became known for a distinctive business model: importing vehicles designed by Chinese manufacturers (notably Chery, JAC and BAIC), then handling the final assembly, finishing, testing and adaptation to the European market at its Italian plant. The group operates several distinct brands (DR, EVO, Sportequipe, Tiger and ICH-X, among others), each targeting a different segment. ICH-X was created specifically for rugged off-road vehicles, in the spirit of adventure-ready machines built for difficult terrain. The brand was initially to be named ICKX, but that name had to be dropped in 2024 following an objection, which led to the current name ICH-X. The first model, the K2, is a 4x4 derived from the Chinese BAIC BJ40, unveiled in 2023. It was followed by the K3, a more compact off-roader based on the Chery group's Jetour Traveller, revealed at the Turin Motor Show. The brand positions its products in the aggressive value-for-money niche typical of Chinese-origin vehicles sold in Europe. It is worth noting that the DR group was fined by Italian authorities for insufficiently disclosing the Chinese origin of its vehicle production. To date, ICH-X has no commercial presence or established distribution network in North America; the brand is sold mainly in Italy and in a few Western European markets (France, Belgium). It is therefore an emerging brand with no North American history.

Technologies
Technologies, innovations and platforms
ICH-X is built on platforms and powertrains developed by its Chinese partners and adapted by DR Automobiles. The K2 uses a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine of about 162 hp paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, with 4x4 all-wheel drive and an off-roader architecture derived from the BAIC BJ40. The K3 adopts a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline four-cylinder producing 245 hp, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and an intelligent all-wheel-drive system (BorgWarner's XWD system) with automatic 2WD/4WD switching and a differential lock. The K3's body makes use of 75% high-strength steel and automated laser welding. The models offer good ground clearance and approach and departure angles favorable to off-road driving. Electrification remains, for now, marginal within the ICH-X lineup.

Identity, reputation, strengths and weaknesses
Positioning
A young Italian brand within the DR group offering bold-styled, affordable 4x4 off-roaders of Chinese origin, absent from the North American market.
Reputation
As a very young brand (2024), ICH-X has a reliability track record that is still too short to be documented reliably, and resale-value data is virtually nonexistent. The general perception, inherited from the DR group, emphasizes an attractive price-to-equipment ratio for boldly styled off-roaders, while also raising reservations about transparency regarding the Chinese origin of the vehicles (the group having been penalized on this point in Italy) and about network support. Early reviews praise the generous equipment levels and the adventure-ready look, but point out that these are recent products whose durability remains to be confirmed.
Strengths
ICH-X bets on boldly styled off-roaders (the K2 evokes a cross between a Jeep Wrangler and a Range Rover) offered with rich standard equipment and a price below that of established benchmarks. The proven mechanical foundations from BAIC and Chery, the Italian final assembly and genuine off-road capability (ground clearance, angles, 4x4) are real assets for a buyer looking for an affordable adventure vehicle.
Points to watch
The brand is very recent, with no track record on reliability, longevity or resale value. The after-sales network remains limited and long-term parts availability is uncertain. The DR group has been penalized for a lack of transparency about the Chinese origin of its products. Above all, ICH-X is not distributed in North America: no network, warranty or official support in Quebec.

Production
The assembly of ICH-X vehicles follows the DR group's model: a significant share of production is carried out in China by the partners (BAIC for the K2, Chery/Jetour for the K3), after which the finishing, testing and European-market adaptation operations are performed at the group's plant in Macchia d'Isernia, in Molise, Italy. DR Automobiles has announced investments to expand this Italian site. To date, ICH-X has no factory or assembly operations in North America, and the brand is not sold there: its distribution is concentrated in Italy and a few Western European countries. No North American production is therefore associated with the brand.
Tires and wheels
Since ICH-X is absent from the North American market, these vehicles are very rarely seen here. For reference, the K2 (an adventure-style 4x4) comes from the factory with large-diameter tires mounted on 20-inch wheels, with more modest alternative fitments in 17 and 18 inches better suited to winter and off-road use. Like any heavy 4x4-oriented SUV, these models benefit in Quebec from a dedicated set of winter tires, ideally on smaller-diameter wheels to gain sidewall height and protect the wheels from salt and potholes. The exact bolt pattern and center bore are not publicly confirmed; check with the manufacturer before purchasing any wheels.
