Changan Qiyuan Nevo
Changan Qiyuan Nevo (长安启源) is an affordable electrified-vehicle brand launched on August 27, 2023 in Chongqing, China. It is not an independent company: it is a division of the state-owned Chinese automaker Changan Automobile, from which it draws its industrial resources and engineering. Changan is one of the oldest names in the Chinese industry, with origins tracing back to a weapons manufacturer founded in 1862, the entity only truly becoming an automaker from 1959 onward. Now based in Chongqing, Changan is one of China's four major state-owned automotive groups and produces millions of vehicles per year. To structure its transition to new-energy vehicles, Changan rolled out several distinct brands starting in 2023: Deepal (mainstream-to-premium smart electric vehicles), Avatr (high-end technology in partnership with Huawei and CATL), and Qiyuan/Nevo, which occupies the entry-level segment and targets budget-conscious families. The international trade name chosen for Qiyuan is "Nevo." The lineup started with sedans (A05, A06, A07) and a compact SUV (Q05), offered depending on the model in fully electric (BEV) or range-extender (EREV/REEV) form, where a small combustion engine serves solely as a generator. The brand is part of Changan's massive electrification strategy and quickly turned toward exports, with launches announced or begun in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Philippines) and in Europe (United Kingdom planned for 2027, under the name Changan E06 for the Q05). In North America, the brand is not marketed: no dealer network or official certification for Canada or the United States has been established to date, which places these vehicles outside the usual North American sales channels.

Technologies
Technologies, innovations and platforms
Nevo vehicles are built on Changan's modular EPA1 electric platform, launched in 2022 and compatible with fully electric, range-extender (EREV/REEV), and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains. The brand relies on two approaches: battery BEV versions (often LFP) and EREV versions combining a 1.5 L combustion engine used solely as a generator with an electric drive motor, an economical solution to reduce range anxiety. The range-extender hybrid system is based on an efficiency-focused P1+P3 architecture. The more recent models adopt an 800-volt architecture and ultra-fast charging (up to 6C), along with large touchscreens, head-up displays, and advanced driver-assistance systems.

Identity, reputation, strengths and weaknesses
Positioning
Entry-level Chinese brand from the Changan group, focused on affordable battery-electric and range-extender vehicles, absent from the North American market.
Reputation
A very new brand (2023), Nevo benefits from the industrial credibility of Changan, one of the major Chinese state-owned automakers known for its volumes and recent progress in electrification. On the Chinese market, the lineup is perceived as good value for money, offering technological equipment and range at a controlled cost. The track record is nonetheless limited: little long-term reliability history, and resale value remains hard to establish outside China. In North America, the brand is absent, with no test or reliability data published by local organizations, which makes any comparative assessment cautious for a Quebec buyer.
Strengths
Key strengths: excellent equipment-to-price value, flexible electrification (fully electric or EREV range-extender to reduce range anxiety), modern platforms (800 V architecture and fast charging on recent models), and the industrial backing of a major state-owned automaker. The brand offers sedans and SUVs well equipped with screens and driver-assistance systems, targeting budget-conscious families.
Points to watch
Points to watch: a very young brand (since 2023) with little hindsight on long-term reliability and resale value still uncertain outside China. Above all, a total absence from the North American market: no dealerships, no official parts, and no after-sales service in Canada. For a Quebec buyer, access to vehicles, warranty, and technical support is therefore problematic, and local certification is not established.

Production
Production of Changan Qiyuan Nevo is handled by Changan Automobile's industrial operations, concentrated mainly in China, notably in the Chongqing region where the group has its headquarters and several large assembly plants for new-energy vehicles. Changan also has production and assembly capacity in other countries depending on its export markets. In North America, there is no plant producing Nevo vehicles, and the brand is not officially distributed there. For Canada and Quebec, this means that no Nevo vehicle is assembled or sold by a local network, and that these models do not circulate through the usual North American channels.
Tires and wheels
As compact-to-midsize electrified sedans and SUVs, Nevo models generally use large-diameter wheels (around 17 to 19 inches), typical of electric vehicles that favor low-rolling-resistance tires to preserve range. The mounting bolt pattern follows the usual standards of modern Chinese platforms (often 5-lug). The exact figures vary by model and trim. In Quebec, as with any heavy, high-torque electrified vehicle, dedicated winter tires are essential and mandatory: they significantly improve traction on snow and ice. Planning for a second set of steel or alloy wheels for the winter mount makes seasonal changeovers easier.
