Geometry

Geometry (often styled "Geometry" or "Geely Geometry") is a Chinese automotive brand created in April 2019 by the Geely Auto group, itself a subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, the conglomerate founded in 1986 by entrepreneur Li Shufu. Geely launched Geometry as a brand dedicated almost exclusively to battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), with the ambition of offering affordable electric cars aimed first and foremost at the Chinese market. The first model, the compact Geometry A sedan, was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2019. June 2020 saw the Geometry C, presented as a crossover or compact SUV, followed by other models such as the Geometry E (subcompact SUV), the Geometry EX3, the Geometry M6 and the Geometry Panda city car. At launch, the brand set the goal of bringing more than ten electric models to market by 2025. Geometry was part of a multi-brand strategy typical of Geely, which also owns or controls Volvo Cars, Polestar, Lynk & Co, Zeekr and the historic Swedish brand. Geometry targeted the mainstream, affordable segment, distinct from Zeekr's premium positioning. The brand went through several reorganizations: in March 2023, Geometry was reconsolidated within Geely Auto as a range of entry-level electric products, and in October 2024 it was reintegrated as a series of "smart quality small cars" (under the Geome name) within the Geely Galaxy brand and dealer network. Internationally, sales began in Central Europe in late 2022, notably in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In North America, Geometry is not officially sold: the brand has no dealer network and no homologation in Canada or the United States, and the Chinese market has remained by far its main outlet.

Technologies

Technologies, innovations and platforms

Geometry is an all-electric brand: all of its models are battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), with no gasoline or hybrid version. The vehicles rely on the electric platforms and engineering of the Geely group. Battery capacities vary by model, with, for example, packs of around 50 to 70 kWh on the Geometry A and C, and stated ranges on the order of 400 to 600 km under the Chinese NEDC homologation cycle (so real-world figures are more modest in use). The cells come notably from established suppliers such as CATL. The models include fast DC charging as well as AC charging, and offer the equipment expected of a modern EV: driver-assistance systems (ADAS), a large central touchscreen, connectivity and digital instrumentation.

Identity, reputation, strengths and weaknesses

Positioning

A Chinese brand of affordable 100% electric vehicles from the Geely group, not distributed in North America.

Reputation

Geometry remains little known outside China and is virtually off the North American radar. In its home market and during European test drives, the brand has been perceived as a sound electric offering with an appealing equipment-to-price ratio, without being a benchmark of high-end refinement. Test drives of the Geometry A judged it competitive in range, performance and charging against more established rivals. Resale value is hard to assess in Quebec since the brand is not distributed there; for such a recent and confined fleet, long-term reliability data remains limited.

Strengths

An all-electric brand backed by a large industrial group (Geely) with engineering resources and recognized battery suppliers. Positioning focused on affordable, well-equipped EVs, with decent stated ranges and a modern, clean design. It benefits from the experience Geely has accumulated through Volvo, Polestar and Zeekr.

Points to watch

A brand that is practically unknown and not distributed in North America: no dealers, no official parts and no service in Quebec, which complicates maintenance and warranty. A short history and successive reorganizations (integration into Geely Galaxy / Geome) creating uncertainty about the longevity of the name. Long-term reliability data and local resale value are poorly documented.

Production and compatibility

Plants, tires and wheels

Production

Geometry's production is part of Geely Auto's industrial base in China, where the group operates several vehicle assembly plants. Geometry vehicles are therefore manufactured in China, for a primarily domestic market and a few exports to Central Europe. Geometry has no plant or assembly line in North America, and the brand is not officially sold there. The Geely group also owns other brands with an international footprint (Volvo, Polestar, Lynk & Co, Zeekr), but no Geometry production is associated with Canada, the United States or Mexico. For a Quebec buyer, these vehicles therefore amount to an exceptional import rather than a common offering.

Tires and wheels

Geometry vehicles are compact electric sedans, crossovers and city cars: they typically come with 16- to 18-inch wheels, fitted with tire sizes common to this segment, for example on the order of 215 to 225 mm in width (the Geometry C has been listed in 225/50R17 and 225/45R18). Like any EV, the weight of the batteries and the instant torque place demands on the tires: favor tires rated for the load and with low rolling resistance to preserve range. In Quebec, dedicated winter tires are mandatory and essential; a second set mounted on steel or alloy wheels of the appropriate diameter makes seasonal changeovers easier. Always check the vehicle's exact bolt pattern and center bore before buying wheels.
