Smart Forfour

The Smart Forfour is the brand's four-seat, five-door version, conceived as a compact family city car. A first generation was produced from 2004 to 2006, sharing its base with the Mitsubishi Colt. After a long interruption, a second generation was launched in 2014, developed jointly with Renault on the same base as the Twingo III, with a rear-mounted engine like the Fortwo. More practical than the latter thanks to its rear doors, it retains an urban format and a short turning radius. A fully electric version, the EQ Forfour, was also offered. Production ended around 2019. The Forfour was not officially sold in North America. Tire/wheel note: a city car running wheels of about 15 to 16 inches; in Quebec, dedicated winter tires are strongly recommended on this light vehicle.

Technology

Technologies, engines and platforms

Second generation based on the Edison platform shared with the Renault Twingo III, three-cylinder gasoline engine mounted at the rear (naturally aspirated or turbocharged), manual or automated dual-clutch gearbox. A fully electric variant (EQ Forfour) with a rear motor rounded out the range.

Tire and wheel compatibility
