Vehicle model
Volkswagen Beetle/Coccinelle
The Beetle (Type 1) is Volkswagen's founding model, produced from 1938 to 2003 and sold in more than 21 million units, making it one of the most popular cars in history. Recognizable by its round silhouette and its rear, air-cooled engine, it became a global cultural icon. Original production continued until 2003 in Puebla, Mexico. Volkswagen revived the concept with the New Beetle (1998-2011), built on the Golf platform, and then a third, more dynamic Beetle generation produced from 2011 to 2019. This retro-modern model appeals to customers drawn by style and character more than pure practicality. On the tire and wheel side, modern versions adopt the usual compact-car diameters; in Quebec, suitable winter tires remain essential for these front-wheel-drive cars.

The original had a rear, air-cooled engine; the New Beetle and modern Beetle are based on the Golf platforms (PQ34 and then MQB derivatives), with front-mounted TSI gasoline engines and various TDI diesel options depending on the markets and generations.
